Northern Hardwood for Higher Hardness

WoodForChef uses Northern Hardwoods (hard maple, cherry, walnut) as they make the best cutting boards because they are more durable. Northern Hardwoods have a higher hardness because they grow more slowly. Their closed grain means they have small pores for a smooth surface. They won’t dull your knife like plastic and glass boards.

Wood that is too soft will be easily scratched and damaged. A good cutting board normally has a Janka hardness between 900 and 1500 (the closer to 1500, the better). Hard Maple has a hardness of 1450, Cherry of 995, Walnut of 1010, Bamboo of 1180.

Easy to Work With

The Classic is designed with a deep juice groove on its front side to collect excess liquid, marinades or drippings while using the board. The backside is completely flat to have a clean and sturdy surface to work with or to make spectacular plating. Easy to transport for presentation or to reverse with the integrated handles on each end.

Premium Preseasoning with Beeswax

At WoodForChef we choose the best for your board and that means extra care with a two-step preseasoning. First, we treat your board with a penetrating food-grade mineral oil to fill in the pores and prevent the wood from drying out. Second, we apply a premium food-grade beeswax that is translucent, has no odor.

The preseasoning also makes your board look awesome with a soft lustrous shine. We also believe the preseasoning will help you have a reference of what a well maintained WoodForChef board looks like.

Unique Character

Every tree is different and as such, every board has its own unique character.

HARD MAPLE : Is the go-to wood when it comes to wooden cutting boards. Maple’s neutral color and subtle grain are a natural match for every kitchen. It provides an excellent cutting surface that holds well against daily chopping but doesn’t ruin a good cutting edge.

CHERRY : Makes for gorgeous cutting boards and if judging by color alone, cherry is the best of the bunch. A thick slab of deep red wood looks amazing no matter what you do with it.

WALNUT : Takes the cake as far as presentation go, if you want high-end, look no further. Walnut is prized for its rich, dark hue that can effectively mask everyday stain, as well lend a chic look to your countertop. Mineral oil makes it extra shiny. Great Walnut cutting board require a very high level of craftmanship.

Cherry Wood:

Cherry makes for gorgeous cutting boards and if going by color alone, cherry is the pick of the bunch. A thick slab of deep red wood looks amazing no matter what you do with it.

Maple Wood:

If you want high-end, look no further. Walnut is prized for its rich, dark hue that can effectively mask everyday stains, as well as lend a chic look to your countertop.

Taking Care of your Premium Wooden Board

Mineral Oil: Works on every wooden products!

100% Natural mineral oil is the best oil for cutting boards in the kitchen, we do not recommend natural oils such as vegetable, corn, olive, peanut or walnut oil, as these are rich in fats that will eventually oxidize and go rancid, creating a foul smelling board.

Product care:

Your WoodForChef cutting board can be washed with hot soapy water after each use and dried with a clean towel or by air. For further cleaning, the board can be rinsed with white vinegar or lemon juice. (1 teaspoon bleach to one quart of water/5-to-1 ratio of vinegar to water). Do not soak the board in water, this will damage the wood. Like all natural wood cutting boards, WoodForChef boards are not intended for the dishwasher.

Maintaining Your Board:

Oil and wax your cutting board on all surfaces every 4 weeks to maintain the original cream finish. This quick task will protect and prolong the board’s life and ensure it is enjoyed for decades to come.
